Wema Bank Plc Share Price Weekly Performance Report (9th January, 2026)

The NGX ALL-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 3.71% and #.84% to close the week at 162,288.08 and N103.776 trillion respectively.

The market was celebrated recently ,when it reached the market Cap of over N100 trillion, which is considered very significant for our market in Africa.

In Africa today ,Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE ) is one of the largest and most liquid stock exchanges in Africa , with a market capitalization of around $1.1 trillion USD.

Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX ) has a market capitalization of approximately $60billion USD ,Egyptian Stock Exchange with Market Capitalization of $50 billion USD.

Casablanca and Kenya have $40billion USD and $20 billion USD respectively just to mention a few .
The implication is that there is still a lot of room for our local bourse to grow but depending on the right economic policies that will engender liquidity into the market.

Trading activities in the banking sector in the week ended 9th January ,2026 ended bullish as the sector gained 3.07% in market value .

The week in the banking sector saw Jaiz Bank top the gainer’s chat , followed by Wema ,GTCO and others , while the laggers were Sterling, Access, Fcmb and Fbnh .

Trading activities in Wema Bank’s shares plummeted as only 67,167,602 units were traded in the week under consideration as against 123,795,195 units in the previous week.

The price tracking revealed that ,the bank’s share price fluctuated within a range of N20.85 (low)to N24.95 (high ) as against previous week’s N18 (low) to N19.10 (high).
The most significant trading price for the week with the highest volume traded stood at N22.85 above previous week’s value area of N19.10.

Wema bank closed at N22.50 with some notable Price Changes.

In conclusion , investors are still craving for the bank’s shares in anticipation of improved dividend payout and anticipated price increase.
